1) A meeting with Seattle City Councilmen Peter Steinbrueck and Richard McIver to develop a working dialogue with the city around issues of community policing and civilian review of police activities (July 1999).
2) Initiation of ongoing dialogue with Seattle Human Rights Commission to build support for civilian review of police activities and increased anti-prejudice education for police officers (August 1999 to present).
3) The MESJF provides speakers and conducts community policing workshops for the general public at the annual Seattle Martin Luther King Commemoration; these workshops covered the concept of a working civilian review board, the need for interactive, anti-racism education for police candidates, and as an ongoing adjunct to continuing education for regular officers, the effects of racial profiling and stereotypical attitudes on police policies and procedures and the importance of mutual respect and trust in achieving peaceable relations between communities and the police force (January 2000 & 2001)
4) The MESJF provided educational speakers for the he Seattle Central Community College forum on Seattle Police Department policies with the reference to racial profiling and excessive force (December 1999).
5) MESJF conducted a candlelight vigil to commemorate the death of various members of communities of color as a result of racially biased police policies (December 2000).
6) The MESJF collaborated with other social justice organizations to sponsor a Fathers Day March to reinforce the need for family values in police/community relations (June 2000).
7) Members of the MESJF collaborated with the Seattle Public Theater in creating a forum theater production, "The color of Justice", which portrayed the emotional trauma caused by racial profiling and prejudicial stereotyping. This performance was designed as audience interactive and allowed the audience to enter the scenes and attempt to achieve a personal resolution (September 2000).
8) The MESJF provided a keynote speaker for an educational conference on social justice held at Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA (June 2001).
9) The MESJF sponsored a benefit performance by Theater of Liberation at Seattle Public Theater's Green Lake Bathhouse to promote wider support for the concepts of civilian review and community policing (August 2001).
